Wilkes University Viewbook 2022-2023

We Know You’re Capable of Amazing Things

Here, you’ll do them. This is an incubator for all you find interesting. A place with countless open doors for everyone willing to work hard. Where you’ll be asked one simple question above all else: What do you want to do?
Whatever it is, we’ll help you.
Whatever it is, we’ll help you.

I’ve been on different research teams since freshman year, and those same professors have been my mentors the whole time.

Mel Fouts hasn’t always considered herself a risk taker, but Wilkes has given her the confidence to become one. Moving away from her family in Missouri, taking on engineering, presenting her research nationally and feeling supported every time. With a passion for environmentalism and years of award-winning research before she even graduates, Mel is still deciding what’s next. She’ll be in a prime position for a job, but she’s crediting her professors for inspiring a possible run at grad school — to become a professor herself.
Environmentalist. Scientist. Engineer. Leader.
Whether you’re the first in your family to go to college, you’re already set on a career path or you’re still figuring it out, Wilkes has a wealth of resources and opportunities to get you to where you want to go. What does success look like? That’s up to you.

We Know You’re Passionate

What do you want to do? This is the place to do it.
It’s the perfect place to pursue what you’re passionate about and prepare for a successful career. You’ll have a campus of Colonels around you, and the city of Wilkes-Barre, and all of northeast Pennsylvania, to explore.
It’s the perfect place to pursue what you’re passionate about and prepare for a successful career. You’ll have a campus of Colonels around you, and the city of Wilkes-Barre, and all of northeast Pennsylvania, to explore.

It’s a beautiful location, but it’s the people that make it. Everyone is passionate, especially the faculty.

Hera Mukhtar has wanted to be in health care her whole life. She fell in love with the Wilkes campus, but the professors and the opportunities available blew her away. Well on her way to being a primary care physician, she already has a conditional seat at the Penn State Hershey College of Medicine through the Wilkes pre-med program. She has a clinical internship at the Guthrie Hospital, where she does research four days a week. And she’s also the president of Women Empowered by Science, where she works with middle school girls who are passionate about science. Her professors inspired her. Now she wants to inspire as many young women as she can.
Want to find your people? You will.

Situated on 35 acres in the middle of Wilkes-Barre, there’s no mistaking our campus. In this historic neighborhood where mansions meet riverbends, you’ll find state-of-the-art facilities, a supercomputer and even an art gallery. What’s even more diverse than the architecture? Everything students are doing. Where opportunity and experience meet support and mentorship, you have free rein to pursue what you’re passionate about.

We Know You’re Willing to Work Hard

That’s the Colonel way. Wilkes is open to all who show promise, without pretense. That means no matter where you are in your journey, we want to help make your education possible and set you up for a successful life. You’ll find a campus of Colonels working hard to earn their degree, and a network of Colonels working hard all around the world.

It’s up to you to put the time and energy in. But the connections I’ve made here have really paved the way for me.

Varsity goalie, president of Phi Beta Lambda (Future Leaders of America, the oldest and largest business organization) and corporate finance major. Nick Kinzler is the ultimate student-athlete. He says balancing both can be tough, but his teammates, coaches and professors help make it possible. Nick puts his leadership skills to the test on and off the field by competing in national PBL conferences (where he has brought home first place), running service events like Special Olympics bowling and interning at a law firm. He has his sights set on a career in sports finance, the perfect combination of his two passions.
From student-athlete to sports finance.
