Mel Fouts hasn’t always considered herself a risk taker, but Wilkes has given her the confidence to become one. Moving away from her family in Missouri, taking on engineering, presenting her research nationally and feeling supported every time. With a passion for environmentalism and years of award-winning research before she even graduates, Mel is still deciding what’s next. She’ll be in a prime position for a job, but she’s crediting her professors for inspiring a possible run at grad school — to become a professor herself.
Environmentalist. Scientist. Engineer. Leader.

What does success mean to you?

Want to start your own business?

Do it.

Have you ever seen a waffle truck? That’s exactly what Wilkes students Billy Berry and Toon De Schepper had in mind when they masterminded their business idea. Now, their food truck, called All Belgium, is a Wilkes-Barre staple, and they’ve even launched a second truck in Chicago.

Want to work with great educational minds?

At Wilkes, you will.

Your professors are your mentors, your supporters and your advocates. They’re brilliant — engaged in the biggest issues of today. They’re dedicated — to their field and to you. They work alongside students in their research, they’ll help you define your career path and they’re always at the forefront of their fields.

Want to work on a supercomputer?

Be part of a team of students who conduct research with one of the most powerful academic supercomputers in the region. Unity Amidst Diversity badge
Hera Mukhtar has wanted to be in health care her whole life. She fell in love with the Wilkes campus, but the professors and the opportunities available blew her away. Well on her way to being a primary care physician, she already has a conditional seat at the Penn State Hershey College of Medicine through the Wilkes pre-med program. She has a clinical internship at the Guthrie Hospital, where she does research four days a week. And she’s also the president of Women Empowered by Science, where she works with middle school girls who are passionate about science. Her professors inspired her. Now she wants to inspire as many young women as she can.
Want to find your people? You will.

Happiness without compromise.

You’re here to earn your degree, but you’ll have fun too. You’ll find like-minded peers living on campus to collaborate and compete with, more than 80 clubs to join and opportunities to enhance your education.

In this historic neighborhood where mansions meet riverbends, you’ll find state-of-the-art facilities, a supercomputer and even an art gallery. What’s even more diverse than the architecture? Everything students are doing. Where opportunity and experience meet support and mentorship, you have free rein to pursue what you’re passionate about.

It’s Wilkes-Barre.
Not Wilkes-Barre.

Between the Pocono Mountains and the Susquehanna River is the city of Wilkes-Barre. You can debate the pronunciation (people do), but you can’t debate the character, history or opportunity. There’s easy access to ski resorts, state parks, restaurants, movie theaters and shops. There are businesses looking for interns, alumni waiting to connect and nature waiting to be explored. It’s a growing college town that we’re helping to build.
See what life at Wilkes is like.

Varsity goalie, president of Phi Beta Lambda (Future Leaders of America, the oldest and largest business organization) and corporate finance major. Nick Kinzler is the ultimate student-athlete. He says balancing both can be tough, but his teammates, coaches and professors help make it possible. Nick puts his leadership skills to the test on and off the field by competing in national PBL conferences (where he has brought home first place), running service events like Special Olympics bowling and interning at a law firm. He has his sights set on a career in sports finance, the perfect combination of his two passions.

Danny DeVito ’20 found his passion for design in high school, where he built his own brand creating art for his football team. What started as a hobby sparked a career path, first landing a freelance gig with the Seattle Seahawks and then an internship with the Washington Nationals during his time at Wilkes. Majoring in digital design and media art, he had free rein of the student-run Studio 20 design agency and interned with the Wilkes athletic department. All while building his network. Now, he’s in Los Angeles working as a senior associate at Fox Sports.
